Chateau Margaux, officially classified since 1855 as a First Growth of the Medoc, is situated about one mile from the Gironde River near the village of Margaux. The vineyard’s 182 acres are planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Long-regarded as one of the most stylish and aristocratic of the First Growth wines, Chateau Margaux is truly an "elegant wine".
This vintage was originally purchased in 1895 and stored in a Swiss country house. In September of 1979, the wine was inspected and recorked by Whitwham & Co. Wines ltd. of England. All bottles were in excellent condition and most have the original corks attached.
In October, 1984, a bottle was opened and showed very well. The wine has thrown a granular deposit and shown a red-mahogany colour right to the rim. Considering its age, it shows good fruit on the nose, while on the palate, it is still fruity and lively.
This outstanding, elegant and rare Margaux of the 1892 vintage is available from our Cellar at $5,000.00.
